Art Quilts at the Whistler 2014

Exhibit Dates: Aug 20 – Sept 20, 2014

Deadline for Entries: May 15, 2014, Notification by May 30

Exhibit Criteria: The Whistler House Museum of Art is seeking Art Quilts that explore the second line from the well-known nursery rhyme “Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary,”  How Does Your Garden Grow? It’s up to the quilt artist to take this line and interpret it for inspiration.

Entry Fees: Each Quilt submitted must be illustrated by two jpgs, one full view and one detail. The fee is $20 (first 2 quilts/ 4 jpgs), $5 each additional quilt (4 quilts max./ 8 jpgs). Make checks payable to the Whistler House Museum of Art. Payment is non-refundable and does not guarantee acceptance. The information at the bottom of this form must be filled out and mailed with entry fee. Images should have a resolution high enough to show detail but not too large to download. (1 MB or less preferred). Please supply a corresponding list including Artist, Title, Media, Size and Pricing.

Requirements: All work must include a hanging dowel with eye screws at each end. The work must possess the basic structural characteristics of a quilt. It must be predominantly fabric or fabric-like material and must be composed of at least two full and distinct layers. The face and backing layers must be held together by hand- or machine-made functional quilting stitches.

Size Restrictions: Each piece will not exceed 72" in any direction.

Awards: A Best in Show Award will be presented at the reception.

Terms and Conditions: The Whistler House Museum of Art (WHMA) and Parker Gallery are fully insured and are protected by a 24-hour monitored security system. Artwork will be handled with due care and consideration by experienced personnel. However, the WHMA is not responsible for any accidental damage that may occur in moving or hanging the artwork. Work submitted must be original. Work that is copied or done under the guidance of a tutor is not eligible. Works chosen for the exhibit must remain on display for the entirety of the exhibition. If work does not fully reflect the quality portrayed in the digital image, the WHMA reserves the right to eliminate it from the show. The WHMA takes a 40% commission on all sold works. Artwork for sale is preferred, but work designated as NFS (not for sale) will be accepted. Images of accepted work may be used for promotional purposes. Artists are responsible for the cost of shipping and insuring work sent to and from the museum.
